All
student dress must be conservative in style and presentation. Students should dress neatly, modestly, in
clothes that are clean, in good repair, and fit properly (not baggy, oversized,
or tight). Jewelry is minimal. SCS reserves the right to make decisions
concerning dress code issues not specifically mentioned here, on items that
need clarification or explanation, or on any errors or areas overlooked in the
writing of this dress code.
The "no hooded
sweatshirt/fleece" portion of this dress code goes into effect as of Oct.
1, 2011.
SHIRTS: Choose from:
*
Polo Shirts: No belt required if
shirt is not tucked in; however, the shirt may hang no lower than the student’s
wrist when his arms are relaxed at his sides.
*Full,
Solid-Colored Turtlenecks: No belt required if
turtleneck is not tucked in; however the shirt portion may hang no lower than the wrist when the student’s arms are relaxed at his sides.
*Collared, Plain Colored, (Chapel Days), Classic Plaid, or
Classic Stripes Oxford Dress Shirts: Must be tucked in and secured with a belt at or just
below the waist. Plain colored dress shirts are required dress with a tie
for grades 6-8 on Chapel Days.
PANTS: Docker Type, Solid in Color Dress Pants

Pants
must be cotton/polyester or corduroy type fabric.
·
Pants
should be properly hemmed and not drag on the floor.
·
If
the pants have second colors, have a stripe down the side, are gathered at the
ankles, are denim or nylon material, they are not acceptable.
·
Underclothing
must not show.
CHAPEL DAYS:
·
Grades 1-5
boys wear dress code school clothing that is acceptable the other days of the
week. Dress code acceptable shorts may
be worn to Chapel during shorts season.

Grades 6–8
boys need to wear regular dress code long, oxford style pants with a plain
colored dress shirt. (not knit shirts)
Belts and regular, knotted ties are required. Shorts may NOT be worn on
Chapel Days.
SHOES:

school to wear in the classroom.
Students may only wear
hoods on winter coats, windbreaker/spring jackets or raincoats.

blue, or plain black in color (not
gray!), with any color stripes down the sides. Small company logos are acceptable.

A
Salem Christian School sweatshirt
(available through the office) or a plain, crew style sweatshirt (red, navy
blue, royal blue or black) is acceptable attire for gym class. Please remember, no hooded sweatshirts are
acceptable at any time at SCS. No
second colors or pictures are allowed on the plain sweatshirts. Small logos are
fine.

During
shorts season, gym uniform shorts may
be worn. Cut off sweatpants, even if hemmed, are not acceptable for gym
shorts. Shorts should be similar to the
requirement for gym pants. Stripes down
the sides e.g. are fine, but the majority of the shorts should be one of the
acceptable gym colors. Length of shorts
should be below mid-thigh in length,
hemmed and in good repair. These may be worn all day at school on gym
days. Shorts of acceptable length may
be worn in gym class all year, but students must put sweatpants back on to go
back in the classroom during the non-shorts season.

jean days. Sweatpants are not acceptable.
· Standard T-Shirts,
with acceptable writing/pictures are acceptable on jean days. During Shorts Season, dress code length shorts may be worn in place of the
jeans.
· Please remember hooded sweatshirts or hooded fleece
garments are not allowed at SCS at any time; however, crew sweatshirts with
acceptable writing or pictures are allowed on jean days.
·
Jean
days are informal dress days. Jewelry, and shoe standards remain
unchanged.

NO RIDGES or SHAVED AREAS. (Please use#2 or higher clipper
blade).

Needs
to be clean, neatly cut, combed.

dyeing or coloring or streaks, etc. No dyeing, highlighting, or coloring with
streaks, etc. We do not advise hair color changes over the summer; however,
should you choose to alter hair color, it must be brought to standard by the
beginning of school functions.
·
No
accessories such as hats, scarves, hair wraps, feathers, or beads, etc.
·
Older
boys should be clean-shaven.
Hair
that does not meet the standard needs to be cut, re-dyed to a natural color, or
otherwise brought to standard by the date on the notice. Detentions and in-house suspensions of up to
3 consecutive days and non-admittance to school may be issued, as needed, until
the hair meets the guidelines above.
ACCESSORIES
Rings, Bracelets, Necklaces,
Watches
Jewelry should achieve a

CLOTHING
STANDARDS
TOPS: All must
be loose fitting and not pull across the
front. No top may be lower than
three closed fingers from the neck collar bone without hiking up the
garment. This is true for regular dress
code days and jean days. This is a “high neck” standard. Students should be cautious when wearing
v-neck blouses, to ensure the garment meets this standard without a camisole.
All tops must be long enough so that no midriff shows even when hands are
raised and fit close enough to the body to maintain modesty when bending
over. Camisole undergarments may not show.
Choose from:
*Polo shirts: Cotton-type, long or
short sleeved, heavier weight with collars are acceptable. Camisoles or other undergarments may not
show, not at the top or at the bottom of the polo.
*Full Solid Colored Turtlenecks: Turtlenecks must be heavier weight cotton, full turtlenecks. No mock turtlenecks, please. As with polos, camisole undergarments may
not show.
* Blouses: Cotton/ polyester type, Collared,
Button-up, Plain-Colored, Plain, Classic in Style
·
Blouses with tails must be worn tucked in with
a belt if the pants/skirt have belt loops.
The current fitted blouses, made to be worn out
are fine to be worn without a belt.
·
Blouses must be buttoned to be no lower than
the three fingers from the neck collarbone standard. Camisoles may not be used to achieve the three finger standard
or for a layering effect,
·
Blouses
are needed on Chapel Days for students grades 6-8.
·
Tops
must be worn so that no undergarments/camisoles are showing.
SKIRTS, JUMPERS, SKORTS, UNIFORM POLO SHIRT DRESSES: In
Cotton/polyester or Corduroy Type
Material
·
Fabric: No denim/nylon, or jean style garments.
·
Skirts, skorts and
jumpers
: Any plain, solid color or any classic
plaid is allowed. No second colors,
please, on solid color garments.
·
Uniform style polo shirt
dresses are the only dresses allowed at SCS.
These are basically a polo shirt with a skirt attached. They may be a plain, solid colored,
classic plaid ,or classic stripes.
·
Style: All must be A-line or pleated. Straight styles are not acceptable.
·
Length: Must be no shorter than 2 inches from the
floor to the hem of the garment when kneeling. (Exception is skorts during
shorts season-see below.)
·
Skorts
that have become too short may be useful for shorts season if they meet the
shorts length standard on your student.
·
Skorts may be worn all year if
they are skirt length.
·
A NOTE ON
TIGHTS/LEGGINGS: Tights or socks may be worn. Leggings are allowed if worn with
socks to achieve the look of full tights.
Leggings
without the covering socks may be worn on jean days with dress code length clothing.
PANTS: Cotton/Polyester or Corduroy Fabric, Solid in Color

If
the pants have a second color, have a stripe down the side, are gathered at the
ankles, are denim or nylon material, they are not acceptable.

Pants must fit properly, not be tight, or
baggy/oversized.
·
Pants

be worn with a belt IF the blouse is tucked in and the pants have belt loops. (Shirts
with “tails” must be tucked in.) No belt is needed if the top is not a blouse
with “tails” and is worn out.

be modestly worn with some looseness in
the thighs, legs, and bottom.
·
No
low cut, hip hugger clothing is allowed.
CHAPEL DAYS
·
Grade 1-5 girls may wear regular dress code clothing that is acceptable the other
days of the week. Dress code shorts may be worn to Chapel during
shorts season.

Grade 6-8 girls should wear a dress code
acceptable plain colored blouse on Chapel Days with a dress code skirt, jumper, skirt-length skort, or pants. Shorts season length skorts
SHOES
Choose from:
